Baramulla, Aug 24: District Baramulla emerged victorious in the U-14 UT Level Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2024, organized by the Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Department of Jammu & Kashmir and hosted by District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Anantnag. In the final match, held at Wanpora Sports Ground, Qazigund, Baramulla defeated District Pulwama by three wickets.
Pulwama, batting first, set a target of 137 runs. Musadik Younus top-scored with 30 runs, while Murtaza added 20 runs to the total. Baramulla’s bowlers, led by Mohd Mudrik (3 wickets) and Arafat (2 wickets), restricted Pulwama to a competitive score.
In response, Baramulla successfully chased the target with three wickets remaining. Key contributions came from Ifham Iftikhar, who scored 41 runs, Hanan Sameer with 30 runs, and Mohd Mudrik, who added 23 runs. Pulwama’s Mehran Gulzar and Huzaif Manzoor tried to turn the game with three and two wickets respectively, but Baramulla held firm.
Mohd Mudrik was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance, contributing both with the bat and ball.
The trophies and medals were presented to the teams by DYSSO Anantnag, Raja Yaqoob, during the post-match ceremony, alongside ZPEO Qazigund.
Earlier in the day, the U-17 Cricket Tournament was inaugurated by Principal BHSS Bijbehara, Nasreena Akhter, at the Bijbehara venue, with participation from teams across 10 districts. Matches will be held at four venues in Anantnag, including Bijbehara, Dooru, Qazigund, and Railway Ground Hassanpora Arwani.
