Bandipora, Aug 23: Senior National Conference (NC) leader Nazir Gurezi said on Friday that his top priority will be securing national highway status for Gurez and Bandipora.
Speaking to reporters, Gurezi denied rumours that NC President Farooq Abdullah’s release by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was tied to a potential alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He called these claims baseless and said this coalition disproves the opposition’s narrative.
The NC further said that while the much-awaited assembly elections will be held in the valley, they are not a “gift” for Kashmiris but their democratic right.
He expressed disappointment over the “lack of development” in Gurez and Bandipora since the removal of Article 370. “The long-standing demand for national highway status for Bandipora remains unmet,” he said.
Gurezi also said that the “emotional campaign”, which led to the Awami Itihad Party’s (AIP’s) success in the Lok Sabha elections, was “backed” by the central government and could be used again in the upcoming assembly polls.
