Pulwama, Feb 15: Pulwama’s star mixed martial arts fighter, Owais Yaqoob, is all set to lock horns with his opponent from Afghanistan for Matrix Fight Night (MFN) 14 at Noida Indoor Stadium.
The event, MFN14, is scheduled on 9 March, 2024 and will feature 12 bouts.
The show will be available on Disney+ Hot star.
Owais Yaqoob from Murran village of Pulwama will face Mohammed Azim Mokhlis, a fighter from Afghanistan.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Owais Yaqoob, said that each fighter will face his opponent in a single fight.
“I am fighting under lightweight category against my opponent from Afghanistan,” he said, adding that he has been training hard for this event.
“I will try my best to win this fight,” he said, adding that wining this fight will help him to progress further in this sport.
The main event of MFN14 will see Sanjeet Bhudwar of India facing Abdul Azim Badakhshi of Afghanistan under featherweight category while in co-main event Mohammed Farhad will fight against Chungreng Koren under Bantamweight category.
Owais made his professional debut at MFN on 31 March, 2023 after he signed three-year contract with them on January, 2023.
He was picked up for international bouts after showing excellent performance in road to MFN contender series in 2022.
Owais is the first professional MMA player from Kashmir who secured a place at MFN.
Earlier, he won a bronze medal in World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation championship in Philippines on July, 2022.
The star martial art player from Pulwama secured 11 gold medals and 7 silvers at national level events.
Besides, he has 17 gold medals in UT level events.
He also runs an academy, Lion’s Den, for training youngsters in MMA.
Owais aims to give his best at MFN and wishes to represent his country at UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).
MFN is India’s biggest mixed martial arts platform founded by Bollywood movie actor, Tiger Shroff along with his mother, Ayesha Shroff and sister, Krishna Shroff in 2019.
Till date MFN hosted 13 events.
