Jammu, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across Jammu, with the national flag hoisted in almost every corner by citizens taking the initiative themselves.
A striking and patriotic sight of the day was the widespread display of the tricolour on rooftops across Jammu, reflecting the success of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
There was hardly a chowk, crossing, or market without the national flag. Many places also saw the distribution of sweets and people dancing to the beats of patriotic songs.
Meanwhile, political parties, including the BJP and Congress, also marked the occasion by hoisting the tricolour at their offices and various locations, distributing sweets, and engaging with the public. Senior leaders, former MLAs, and ex-corporators participated actively, raising the flag in their respective areas from early morning until the afternoon.
The BJP celebrated the day by hoisting the national flag at several locations throughout Jammu and Kashmir. At the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina, General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta led the flag-hoisting ceremony.
At Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, former Minister Sat Sharma, former MP Shamsher Singh, and other leaders participated in the flag hoisting.
In City Chowk, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, BJP NEM Priya Sethi, Vice-President Yudhvir Sethi, Purnima Sharma, Sunil Prajapati, Hari Om Sharma, and others also hoisted the national flag.
Ravinder Raina, while congratulating the people, emphasised that the freedom we enjoy today is due to the sacrifices of our national heroes. He paid tribute to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Mangal Pandey, Tantia Tope, Chander Shekhar Azad, Ashfaq Ulla Khan, and other freedom fighters.
The Congress Party also held a flag-hoisting ceremony at its head office in Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu.
