Srinagar, Aug 04: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has called on hoteliers to cease using plastic water bottles in their establishments and transition to glass bottles to safeguard the natural beauty of the renowned tourist destination.
Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority, Waseem Raja, informed Rising Kashmir that Gulmarg is an eco-fragile zone, and maintaining it as plastic and polythene-free is a shared responsibility.
Through the efforts of the GDA, municipality, and other stakeholders, significant strides have been made in keeping Gulmarg clean and free from polythene and plastic. A complete ban on these materials within Gulmarg has become imperative.
“Hoteliers in Gulmarg have been supportive of the green initiatives led by the GDA, such as anti-polythene campaigns and eco-tourism events,” Raja said.
He added that as part of their collective commitment to maintaining Gulmarg’s polythene and plastic-free status, hoteliers in Gulmarg are urged to stop using plastic water bottles in their establishments and switch to glass bottles instead.
To ensure this transition, necessary measures will be implemented within one month. “This action will not only help us collectively preserve the natural beauty of Gulmarg but also promote a more sustainable environment,” Raja added.
