Srinagar, Aug 01: Senior National Conference leader and former Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, who is also in charge of the Eidgah Constituency, on Thursday announced support for the Srinagar district administration’s recent decision to begin fencing work on major bridges in the city.
In a statement issued here, Gul lauded the administration’s move to enhance safety by fencing the sides of critical bridges including Nawa Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Gowkadal, Safakadal, and Noor Jahan Bridge. This initiative, with an expected completion date of September 10, 2024, is a proactive measure to prevent potential suicide incidents and safeguard precious human lives, he said
The NC leader said that this initiative aligns with his previous demands and reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing public safety concerns. However, he also called for a thorough investigation into the underlying causes of suicide incidents. “It is crucial to ascertain whether these tragedies are linked to domestic violence, harassment, or other socio-economic factors,” he said.
Moreover, Mubarak advocated for the establishment of a dedicated helpline for the general public. “Such a service would offer immediate support and guidance to individuals in distress, potentially preventing suicide and improving overall mental health support within the community,” he said.
Gul reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to protect and support the residents of Srinagar. He urged the administration to continue working collaboratively with various stakeholders to address the root causes of such incidents and enhance the overall well-being of the population.
