Mercury soars again in Kashmir , Qazigund, Kokernag record heat wave

After relaxing temperatures, the mercury has increased yet again across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday with twin places of the Valley including Qazigund and Kokernag recording heat wave as the maximum temperatures settled above 5 degrees than the normal temperature.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Qazigund and Kokernag recorded heat wave today where the mercury settled at 33.4 degree Celsius and 33.0 degree Celsius respectively.

However, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed a maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius, which was 4.3 degree above than normal and just 0.2 degrees below than entering into the heat wave.

The mercury witnessed a rise across Kashmir today amidst the forecast of heat wave conditions across Kashmir and some parts of Jammu division for the next 72 hours.

In Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, the mercury settled at 29.9 degree Celsius while in Kupwara, it settled at 34.6 degree Celsius. Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, however recorded a maximum temperature of 24.5 degree Celsius.

Besides Kashmir, the mercury has also improved in Jammu division today with Jammu recording a maximum temperature of 37.4 degree Celsius.

Banihal has recorded a maximum temperature of 32.0 degree Celsius while Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 29.3 degree Celsius, 33.5 degree Celsius and 34.2 degree Celsius respectively.

Moreover, amidst the possibility of heat wave for next 72 hours, the weatherman here has forecasted the possibility of a short spell in a few areas of Kashmir and many parts of Jammu division on July 23 and 24—(KNO)
