Srinagar, Jan 04: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Thursday said J&K has been lagging behind in terms of development for the past eight years.
“The successive governments have not made any progress in the sectors of power, water, road, employment and rural development since 2015, which has resulted in the people being deprived of their livelihood at the ground level,” he said while addressing a meeting of party functionaries at the NC headquarters here.
Sagar said, “From 2009 to 2014, the National Conference government had started projects of 3094 MW only under Chenab Valley Power Projects to make Jammu and Kashmir self-sufficient in the electricity sector. For the last 8 years, no attention has been paid to completing these projects.”
He added, “Many small projects including 450MW Baglihar II were completed within the stipulated period in the Omar Abdullah-led government, and projects like 1000MW Pikal Dol, 624MW Kiru and 540MW Kaur were running but with the change of government in 2015 the work on these projects was halted & till date, several deadlines for the completion of these projects have missed and none of these projects is going to see the light of the day in the near future.”
The NC leader said the Omar Abdullah government established new administrative units in all the districts, but after that the successive governments did not do anything to make these administrative units functional. “Rulers have not focused on water, roads, employment and rural development, as a result of which Jammu and Kashmir today has record-breaking unemployment, acute shortage of drinking water, no headway in roads and rural development,” he said.
