Srinagar, July 12: A massive search operation by security forces was underway in several villages of Akhnoor in Jammu district on Friday, after locals witnessed suspicious movement of unidentified men in the area, officials said.
The joint search operation was launched by Army, Police and CRPF in Guda Patan and Kana Chak areas in Akhnoor belt on Friday after several local villagers and eyewitnesses informed police about the suspicious movement of three unidentified persons in the area.
A senior police officer from Jammu told Rising Kashmir that three locals informed police about the suspicious movement in Akhnoor area after unidentified men were sighted.
“We have heightened security in the entire area, vehicles are being checked on Jammu-Akhnoor highway at Kanachak area. Search Operation is underway,” he said.
The police officer said that the forces have been put on high alert, while people have been urged to share any details about suspicious movement if any.
“We have also used sniffer dogs to track the unidentified men in agricultural fields, and residential areas but nothing has been found yet. Due to darkness during night, security forces are facing difficulty and the operation may be halted. It will be resumed early this morning, all nearby roads, paths have been closed for any movement,” he added.
Defence Public Relations Officer, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that a search operation was initiated based on police inputs after locals reported unidentified men in the area.
Meanwhile, a local eyewitness told the media that he was at home and suddenly unidentified men were asking for water. I told them I am not the owner of this house and they left immediately. They were three men and fled in nearby areas and after that I informed police, he said.
