Srinagar, Mar 15: Ghulam Ahmad Mir, AICC General Secretary and former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President, on Friday said conducting simultaneous assembly and parliamentary elections in Jammu & Kashmir is crucial to restore democracy in the Union Territory (UT).
It is essential for the Election Commission of India (ECI) to announce dates for both Lok Sabha and assembly elections to uphold the democratic rights of the people, he said.
Mir underscored the significance of holding simultaneous assembly elections in J&K, saying that the region has not witnessed elections for the past decade. He expressed concerns over the lack of democratic processes, saying the BJP government is responsible for undermining democracy and the rights of the people.
The All India Congress Committee General Secretary urged the ECI to announce dates for simultaneous elections. He reiterated the people’s expectation for the announcement of long-awaited assembly polls, saying there is a need for democratic governance in Jammu & Kashmir.
