Srinagar, Nov 09: In the latest breach of the ceasefire agreement since February 2021, BSF personnel, identified as Head Constable Lal Fam Kima from Aizawl, Mizoram, lost his life in unprovoked firing by Pakistani Rangers along the international border in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district, Jammu.  Overall, it is the sixth violation since the two sides signed a ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.
The incident, occurring on the night of November 8-9, prompted a swift response from the BSF, with the injured jawan immediately transported to a local medical facility. Despite efforts, Head Constable Lal Fam Kima succumbed to his injuries during treatment at GMC Hospital in Jammu.
Survived by his wife and three children, Lal Fam Kima’s sacrifice was acknowledged by the BSF, with Director General and all ranks saluting his supreme sacrifice. The unprovoked firing not only claimed a valuable life but also triggered panic among villagers in the Ramgarh area, leading to residents seeking refuge in bunkers.
The BSF has consistently lodged protests at commandant-level flag meetings, urging restraint and adherence to the ceasefire agreement in response to provocations.
In a post on X, the BSF said, “Director General and all ranks of Border Security Force salute the supreme sacrifice of HC/GD Lal Fam Kima of 148 Bn who succumbed to injuries during unprovoked Cross Border Firing incident along the Jammu Border. Prahari Parivar stands by his family in this trying time.
It may be noted that on October 28, Pakistan Rangers engaged in heavy firing and shelling for approximately seven hours, resulting in injuries to two BSF jawans and a woman.
Similarly, on October 17, two BSF personnel were injured in unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers in the Arnia sector.
In response to these provocations, the BSF had lodged protests with Pakistan Rangers at commandant-level flag meetings, emphasizing the need for restraint and adherence to the ceasefire agreement.
