Srinagar, Feb 03: The residents of Dawood Colney Shahre Khas, specifically those residing in Labroo Lane Dawood Bridge, are up in arms over the worsening condition of their streets and drainage system, calling for urgent intervention from authorities.
Complaints from locals highlight that the streets become waterlogged routinely during rainy days due to a lack of consistent maintenance by the authorities. Instead of proactively addressing the issue, authorities seem to react only when blockages occur, opting for temporary solutions such as pumping out excess water.
One resident expressed frustration, stating, “Authorities only spring into action when there’s a blockage, pumping out water temporarily. It’s a quick fix, not a lasting solution for our flooded streets.”
The plight of school-going children is a major concern for the residents. The same resident emphasized, “Our kids face problems going to school when the streets turn into waterlogged paths. We’re asking for concrete streets and a proper drainage system for a lasting solution.”
Residents are also critical of the authorities for focusing on the development of main tourist spots in Srinagar, neglecting the basic needs of other areas. The resident added, “Their focus is on the main areas to attract tourists, but the rest of Srinagar is neglected, dealing with basic issues like flooded streets.”
In response to the community’s demands, Abdul Majid, the president of Dawood Colney, provided assurance, stating, “The tender was approved, and in the coming days, we will witness the implementation of concrete streets and a proper drainage system.”
