Kargil, Feb 03: The Twin Districts of Leh and Kargil districts of the Union Territory of Ladakh Saturday observed a complete shutdown while a protest march was held in Leh district.
The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have issued a ‘Leh Chalo’ call, rallying residents to assemble and articulate their demands, which include Ladakh’s Statehood, 6th Schedule, job reservations for locals, and dedicated parliamentary seats for Leh and Kargil.
The twin districts of the UT are witnessing widespread closures, with shops, businesses, and offices shuttered, leading to disruptions in transport services. This coordinated action aims to underscore the pressing concerns voiced by LAB and KDA.
Renowed Socio Political Activist and member of KDA Sajjad Kargili wrote on “X.” “Despite harsh cold people in #Leh gathered and marching with the demand for Statehood, Constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule, and PSC and employment opportunities for Ladakh.”
Meanwhile the Union Home Ministry had extended an invitation to civil society leaders from the region for the second round of a high-powered committee dialogue scheduled for February 19. The committee, led by Minister of State (Home) Nityanand Rai, was reconstituted on November 30 last year, following the rejection of the initial committee formed in January 2023 by LAB and KDA.
