Jammu, June 07: For the first time, Jammu is expected to have representation in the upcoming Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is set to take oath for a record third consecutive term.
Senior leaders of the Jammu & Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (J&K BJP), speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that they have received indications and assurances from the party’s high command regarding representation for Jammu in the Central government.
“Udhampur-Kathua-Doda has been given representation in the Modi government in the last 10 years. Jammu-Reasi, a stronghold of the BJP in J&K and the high command is well aware of this. It is most likely that the winter capital would get its representation in the Union government,” they said.
They said Jugal Kishore Sharma, the three-time MP from the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat, is reportedly poised to be inducted as a minister in the Central government.
The BJP has maintained a strong presence in the Jammu region, winning both Lok Sabha seats in the last three parliamentary elections held in 2014, 2019 and 2024. In each of these elections, the party secured convincing victories in the region, reinforcing its dominance.
Both Dr Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma, the sitting MPs from the Jammu region, have won their respective seats for the third consecutive time. Dr Jitendra Singh emerged victorious in the Udhampur-Kathua constituency, defeating his nearest rival from the Congress Party by a substantial margin of 124,373 votes.
Similarly, Jugal Kishore Sharma secured a significant victory in the Jammu-Reasi constituency, defeating his Congress opponent by a margin of 131,540 votes. These results show the strong support enjoyed by the BJP in the Jammu region.
