Gulmarg, Jan 16: The Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) successfully concluded its 2nd snow ski and pilot snowboarding course at Gulmarg, where 82 students from various parts of the country participated.
The graduation ceremony featured Brigadier Saurabh Singh Shekhawat, KC, SC, SM, VSM, Deputy Commandant High Altitude Warfare School Gulmarg, as the chief guest, who felicitated the winners of different skiing events.
Col IS Thapa, SM, VSM, MID, Principal IISM, welcomed Brigadier Saurabh Singh Shekhawat and provided an overview of the institute, highlighting its commitment to delivering high standards of training. The institute has become renowned for its facilities and training, attracting students from across the country.
Col IS Thapa mentioned that due to the institute’s excellent standards, courses are often fully booked within minutes, and every year, many students are unable to join due to capacity limitations. Ski courses not only teach skiing skills but also contribute to the overall personality development of the trainees, creating employment opportunities as guides, instructors, and entrepreneurs.
Brigadier Saurabh Singh Shekhawat appreciated the institute’s efforts in providing world-class training and successfully completing the courses despite challenges such as limited snowfall and shortages of snow slopes for skiing. Singh emphasized the importance of such training, highlighting its role in teaching humility, resilience, and determination, fostering strong bonds among students. He also addressed the impact of global warming, urging students to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and contribute to an environment free from pollution.
The students expressed their satisfaction with the training, praising the efforts of instructors and staff. They acknowledged the transformative impact of the training, not only enhancing their skiing skills but also shaping their lives. Many expressed a desire to return for further training, recognizing the broader benefits beyond skill development.
