Baramulla, Dec 20: At least seven sheep were killed in a suspected leopard attack in the village of Gulistan Payeen of Narvaw in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Monday night while five others were injured.
A police officer said that at least seven sheep of Mohammad Ashraf Malik, a resident of Gulistan Payeen of Naravaw were killed in a suspected leopard attack.
“Given the nature of the injuries, it seems to be a leopard attack,” the police officer said.
The locals of Narvaaw area of Baramulla said that leopards are making entry to human habitation and the concerned department has failed to protect the locals from leopard attacks.
Mohammad Ashraf Malik, the sheep owner told Rising Kashmir that when he went to feed the sheep on Tuesday morning, he saw seven sheep dead with blood smeared around in a nearby field and five more injured.
The villagers appealed to the Wildlife Department officials to contain the movement of wild animals in and around the human habitation.
They also appealed to the government to provide compensation to the affected livestock owners.
Earlier in October 2022, five sheep were killed in a suspected leopard attack in Zehanpora village of Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
