7 burglars arrested in Kulgam: Police

Kulgam, Sept 28: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested seven burglars and recovered stolen property in Kulgam.
An official said, Kulgam police dismantled a notorious gang of burglars involved in a spate of thefts across the region.
He said, following a surge in burglary complaints within the jurisdiction of the Kulgam Police Station, cases were registered under FIR No. 131/2023 and FIR No. 165/2023, invoking relevant sections of the law. In response, a specialized team, overseen by SP HQRS Kulgam, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat-JKPS, was assembled to probe into the series of burglaries.
“During the course of their investigation, a key suspect, Ayan Shameem, son of Mohd Shameem Halwai and a resident of Bijnoor, UP, currently residing at Rangrezpora, Kulgam, was brought in for questioning. His disclosures led to the identification and subsequent apprehension of the remaining six culprits,” he said.
The police identified the others as Shahid Sheikh, son of Mohd Jasim Sheikh, hailing from Delhi and currently residing in Srinagar; Farman Ahmad, son of Hanif Ansari, a resident of Bijnoor, UP; Mohd Amir, son of Mohd Yameen, from UP; Bhar Alam, son of Mani Ahmad, also from UP; Mudasir Habib, son of Habibullah Mir, hailing from Shalipora Sopore and nd Shabir Ahmad Bakerwal, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bakerwal, identified as a juvenile.
He said, all the suspects admitted to their involvement in a series of burglaries, providing crucial leads for further investigation. The arresting team, led by SHO PS Kulgam, successfully recovered stolen property amounting to several lakhs, further solidifying their case.
He further added that the ongoing investigation promises additional arrests and recoveries, marking a significant breakthrough in resolving multiple theft cases that have plagued Kulgam Police.
Meanwhile, traders in Kulgam town have expressed gratitude to the police for their swift action in apprehending the burglars. They have stated that this development brings a sigh of relief to them.
