68th National School Games Fencing: Manipur wins twin Gold; Maharashtra Foil Gold, J&K bags Sabre Silver

Jammu, Nov 13: Showing stellar grit and tenacity, the fencers from Manipur clinched twin Gold in U-14 Boys Epee and Sabre events, while Maharashtra U,-14 Girls Foil team won Gold medal and the hosts Jammu and Kashmir claimed Silver medal in U-14 Boys Sabre event in the ongoing 68th National School Games in U-14 Boys and Girls, being organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu here on Wednesday.
The Games are being held under the overall patronage of the dynamic and energetic trio of the Minister for Sports, Satish Sharma; Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez and Director General Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara.
Meanwhile, in the U-14 Boys Sabre team event, the fencers from J&K showed extraordinary skills to claim silver medals. The quartet of winners from J&K included Devkaran Singh, Parv Mahajan, Harnidh Singh and Shivansh Sharma. The Gold medal in this event went to Punjab, while the Bronze medals in this event were claimed by Maharashtra and Punjab.
In U-14 Boys Epee team event, Manipur won Gold, while Silver went to the DAV College Managing Committee and the Bronze medal was bagged by Punjab and CBSE Welfare Sports Organisation.
In U-14 Girls Foil team event, Maharashtra bagged Gold, Manipur Silver and the Bronze medal was claimed by Gujarat and Delhi.
The winners were felicitated with the medals by Sh Ved Prakash, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu in the presence of a galaxy of dignitaries.

It may be recalled that the Fencing National is as part of a historic series of Nationals that Jammu is hosting in the disciplines of Judo, Fencing, Wushu and Football, wherein 4000 athletes from across the country are expected to take part in a month-long event.
