Baramulla, Dec 29: Police on Friday booked three most wanted drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla.
A police official said that the trio were lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu.
Police identified the most wanted and notorious drug smugglers as Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad both residents of Solinda Khaipora Tangmarg and Waseem Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Sultan resident of Watalpora Tangmarg
“All have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority,” the police official said.
He said that the booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu.
Baramulla police said that several cases were registered against these drug smugglers and were involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth of Tangmarg areas and other areas of the district.
“Despite their involvement in many FIRs they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth,” police said.
In another operation Baramulla police arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police official said that a police party headed by SHO Chandoosa intercepted two persons at a checkpoint at Kachwa Muqam Chandoosa,
“During their search, 60 grams of Charas-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession,” he said.
Police identified the drug peddlers as Sakib Rashid son of Abdul Rashid resident of Kanispora and Zeeshan Ali son of Ali Mohammad Malik resident of Delina Baramulla.
They were arrested and shifted to Police station Chandoosa where they remained in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at police Station Chandoosa and investigations have been initiated.
