3 drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla

Baramulla, Sep 28: In its ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs in district Baramulla, the police have made significant arrests in separate operations in Baramulla and Sopore, leading to the recovery of contraband substances.

A police official said that a police team from Police Station Tangmarg, led by the Station House Officer under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Tangmarg, established a checkpoint at Hardu Ichloo in Baramulla.

“During this operation, they intercepted and apprehended an individual identified as Ghulam Mohd Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, a resident of Khaminderpora Tangmarg,” he said.

The police official said that subsequent to a search, the police recovered 55 grams of contraband substance known as Charas from his possession.

As a result, cases have been registered against Ghulam Mohd Bhat under the relevant sections of the law at Police Station Tangmarg, and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation conducted by the Police Station Sopore, under the supervision of the SDPO Sopore, two individuals were apprehended during a checkpoint search near ITI Sopore.

They were identified as Irfan Mushtaq Gasi, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Gasi, a resident of Kralteng Sopore, and Mudasir Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Aziz Dar, a resident of Amin Abad Arampora Sopore.

The search revealed the possession of 120 grams of a substance resembling Charas.

In response to this discovery, a case bearing FIR No. 244/2023 under the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation is underway.

The police authorities have urged the general public to report any instances of drug peddling or other criminal activities in their vicinity by contacting the nearest police station or dialing the emergency number 112.
