3 Army personnel killed in Kulgam encounter; operation underway

Srinagar, 04 Aug: Three army personnel who had sustained critical injuries during an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Halan area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, sucummed in the hospital.

 

Army spokesman said three soldiers have succumbed to their injuries in hospital and encounter is still underway. 

 

“Acting on specific inputs regarding presence of terrorists on higher reaches of Halan in Kulgam, operations launched by Security Forces today. In exchange of firing with terrorists, three personnel sustained injuries and later succumbed.Search operations are continuing, he said.

 

The spokesman said bodies of  three slain jawans will be given full guard of honor on Saturday in Srinagar and after that mortal remains will be sent to respective states.

 

Earlier Additional Director General Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Rising Kashmir that three Army jawans have been injured in the encounter. They were evacuated to hospital for immediate medical treatment, he said.

 

Another police officer said the security forces have intensified search operations in the area to neutralize the terrorists involved in the exchange of fire.

 

He said search parties were zeroing in near the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight.

 

“We have cordoned the area and all roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed. Currently firing is going on from both sides,” he said.

 

The officer said the operation is underway, more troops have arrived and the cordon has been further tightened.

 

About the number of terrorists  trapped, the police officer said two local terrorists are believed to be trapped inside the target house. We have installed more lights in the area, he said.

 

The official said all SOPs will be followed including the installation of more lights, multiple layer cordon, etc.
