Anantnag, Feb 04: Two lakh saplings will be planted in the Anantnag Forest Division under Prime Minister’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, officials said on Tuesday.

Mudasir Mehmood, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Anantnag said that a novel plantation drive has been initiated in the Anantnag Forest Division, starting with the distribution of potted plants among senior women citizens. The initiative will be extended to other citizens to achieve the target.
“The Anantnag Forest Division has launched a unique programme by distributing potted plants among senior women citizens. A door-to-door campaign was started from the Utersoo block, where potted plants were distributed among elderly women,” DFO said.
He added that the initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, which is being conducted nationwide.
“Under this campaign, we aim to plant around two lakh trees in the division. The distribution programme will be extended to all ranges of the division,” he said.
DFO further said that individuals interested in planting trees will be provided with saplings, including species such as Deodar, Pine, and Kail, throughout the division.
“We will also organize plantation programmes in collaboration with various departments. However, the distribution of potted plants is a unique initiative, with around 400 more plants set to be provided to senior women at their doorsteps,” he added.
