Rajouri, Dec 13: A two-day international webinar titled “Approaching the Hadith in Contemporary Times: A Quest for Engaging with the Prophetic Guidance” was organized by the Department of Islamic Studies, BGSBU, Rajouri on December 12 and 13. The webinar invited some great resource persons from across the country and abroad who deliberated on the theme.
Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, Prof. Akbar Masood, Chief patron of the webinar, lauded the efforts of and congratulated the Department of Islamic Studies. The webinar hosted six learned scholars who delivered regarding different dimensions and shades of the Hadith and their bearings upon human life. Coordinator, Department of Islamic Studies, BGSBU, Dr. Naseem Gul, in his introductory cum welcome address welcomed all the speakers and impressed upon the importance of debating such themes.
On the first day, Prof. Hamidullah Marazi, Director, International Centre for Spiritual Studies, IUST, Awantipora, in his inaugural lecture deliberated upon the current debates on Hadith studies. A thought-provoking presentation was delivered by Shaykh Wajahat Hussain al-Hanafi, a Hadith expert based in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman in which the speaker discussed the subject technically and created a quest among the participants to indulge themselves in Hadith studies. Dr. Showkat Hussain, Former Head, Department of Islamic Studies, IUST, Awantipora, discussed the historical discourse of Hadith studies with reference to prominent scholars and deal with the approaches of studying Hadith throughout the history of human civilization.
On the 2nd Day, Dr. Mueed-uz-Zafar, Sr. Assistant Professor, Department of Religious Studies, Central University of Kashmir, raised certain fundamental questions regarding Hadith in the context of the Departments of Islamic Studies, especially in Indian Universities. Dr. Mohd Khalid Khan, Sr. Faculty Member, Department of Islamic Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Dehli, delivered a lecture on the significance of Hadith as depicted in the verses of the Quran and in the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Dr. Nazir Zargar, Coordinator, Department of Religious Studies, Central University of Kashmir, delivered a wonderful and thought-provoking lecture on the approaches of Hadith in contemporary times and the role of Muslim scholarship.
The session concluded with the remarks of the Associate Dean, School of Islamic Studies and Languages, BGSBU, Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum, who appreciates the efforts of the Department of Islamic Studies and thanked all the speakers for their thoughtful presentations. The webinar was concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Dr. Muheeb Ahad, Faculty Member, Department of Islamic Studies, BGSBU, to all the learned speakers and audience.
