Srinagar, June 19: Under the Continued Medical Education Programme-2023, a two-day conference on ‘Precision Medicine in Allergic Disorders began Sheri-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, (SKIMS) Srinagar on Monday.
The mega event is being organised by the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine under the aegis of the World Allergy Organization. Over 300 delegates from the country and abroad are attending the two-day academic feast.
Stalwarts from various national and international institutes made insightful talks about allergy awareness and future perspectives.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Digamber Behera, President Indian College of Allergies. Prof. Parvez Koul, Director SKIMS was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
The program began with a welcome address by Prof Zaffar A Shah, Head of Immunology SKIMS. He also outlined the current scenario of Allergy in Kashmir.
President AANI Prof Gayatri Pandit emphasized the importance of good research in Allergy to alleviate human suffering and Prof PK Vedanthan from Colorado USA was the Special Guest on the occasion.
Prof B A Laway and Dean Skims addressed the audience and said that it is a proud privilege to have this type of CME on Allergic disorders being organized in the valley.
Prof Roohi Rasool the organizing secretary of the conference presented the vote of thanks.
She said it is the first event in J&K where allergic diseases are thoroughly deliberated by around 300 key thought leaders in the field of Allergy from India and abroad.
Prof. Roohi said in recent years, allergies have emerged as a significant public health concern. A thorough awareness campaign among the general public and the medical community regarding prevention, diagnosis, and treatment is therefore unavoidable in this situation, she said.
The scientific session on ‘Childhood Allergies and Environment’ was delivered by Dr Neeraj Gupta, it was followed by ‘Where are we heading to in the filed of Allergy’ by Prof. PK Verdanthan.
Dr. PA Mahesh, Prof. Muzaffar Jan, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rathar, Prof Bashir Charoo Chaired the first session.
Similarly, a lecture on Molecular Allergy diagnostics and its relevance in clinical practice was delivered by Dr. Satish Roy. It was followed by Oral Immunotherapy in Food Allergy and was delivered by Dr Jain Yisoh.
The second scientific session was chaired by Prof. Zargar Amin Shah, Prof. Altaf Shah and Prof. Riyaz Shah.
Expert talk on Precision Medicine in Allergic Disorders was delivered by Prof. PA Mahesh, Second talk on Phenotypes of Asthma was presented by Prof. Naveed Nazir Shah. The session was chaired by Prof. Rafi Jan, Prof Mubarak Naqash, Prof. Naveed Nazir Shah, Dr. Saibal Mohitra.
Prof. Marcus Maurer delivered his expert talk on ‘Chronic Urticaria and Angioedema’. The session was chaired by Dr. Satish Roy, Dr Imran Majid, Dr Aaqib Zargar Banday.
Later the panel discussion on ‘Alleviating Allergies Unmet needs’ was presented by panellists including Prof. Marcus Maurer, Prof. MA Mahesh, Dr. Satish Roy, Dr Anand and Dr. Pendakur. The session was moderated by Dr. Taha A, Qureshi.
