Srinagar, March 02: Pulse Polio Drive in Jammu and Kashmir Aims to Immunize 19 Lakh Children
In a concerted effort to combat polio, the Jammu and Kashmir Health Department is set to embark on a massive immunization drive targeting 19 lakh children below the age of five. With meticulous planning, the department has established over 11,000 polio booths across the region, ensuring accessibility to all.
Dr.TabasumJabeen, Director of Family Welfare, MCH, and Immunization, J&K, affirmed the state’s preparedness, citing the training of 45,000 vaccinators and 2500 supervisors for the initiative.
“All the arrangements have been made across Jammu and Kashmir. We have trained 45,000 vaccinators besides 2500 supervisors to supervise the immunization activities,” said Dr TabasumJabeen.
This year’s campaign encompasses a comprehensive approach, with a supply of 22 lakh vaccine doses to cover all children, beginning with booth vaccinations followed by a two-day door-to-door effort. Prior to the drive, extensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities were conducted to disseminate information and raise awareness among the populace.
Emphasizing the importance of community participation, the health department has urged parents to bring their children to the designated vaccination centers or nearby health facilities. The overarching goal remains to ensure that every eligible child receives the vital polio vaccine, reinforcing the region’s commitment to public health and disease prevention.
