Srinagar, March 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday said that 17 schools including 11 primary schools and 6 middle schools in Pattan Constituency are currently operating in rented accommodations due to the unavailability of land for constructing permanent school buildings.
In response to a query raised by MLA Pattan, Javid Riyaz, Minister of Education, Sakina Itoo in a written reply said that out of 142 Schools in Pattan Constituency only 17 schools (11 Primary Schools and 06 Middle schools) are functioning on temporary accommodations due to the lack of suitable land for construction.
Among the affected schools, several are located in areas like Nehalpora, Takiya Mamoosa, and Chanpora Kanloo, where the issue of land acquisition has delayed the establishment of permanent school infrastructure, it said.
“The government has acknowledged the importance of addressing this issue and stated that efforts are underway to construct new buildings for these schools. The construction will be undertaken through the Samagra Shiksha scheme and the UT CAPEX plan, once the necessary land is secured,” it said.
Reply further reads that two of the schools, namely Boys Middle School Goli Pura and Girls Middle School Sherabad, have already been sanctioned for new buildings under Samagra Shiksha for the year 2024-25, with a combined budget of Rs 90.77 lakh.
“The remaining schools are being planned for future construction, with the government committed to resolving the land issues and ensuring better educational infrastructure for students in the Pattan Constituency,” it said.
