Jammu, Mar 25: There are 107 school buildings in the Udhampur district of the Jammu region that are seemingly unsafe, out of which 64 fall in the Udhampur West Constituency. This was informed in the House on Tuesday by the government while replying to a question by BJP MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta.
The government said that the PWD (R&B) Department has been requested by the CEO of Udhampur to conduct a safety audit, and the process is currently underway.
In the Udhampur West Constituency, 362 posts of teaching staff are presently lying vacant, including 69 posts of Lecturers, 109 posts of Masters, and 184 posts of Teachers, the government informed.
The government said no recruitments of teachers have been made for the last five years, which has added to the deficiency of teaching staff, especially in lower-ranking cadres, as a large number of promotions and retirements have taken place during this period.
“No appointments of teachers on a contractual or academic arrangement basis have been made by the School Education Department, it said. However, the department has already engaged 1,496 Cluster Resource Coordinators during the academic year as per the requirement of the institutions,” the government said.
