Sarpanch among 4 drug peddlers arrested in Pattan

Baramulla, March 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested four drug peddlers, including a local Sarpanch, Farooq Ahmad Malik, from Singhpora Pattan and seized narcotics from their possession.
A police official said that a team led by Peerzada Aijaz Ahmad-JKPS, DySP Hqrs Baramulla, intercepted a Scorpio bearing registration number DL4CNB-9313, at a naka checking point near Hyundai Showroom Rawathpora in Delina, Baramulla.
"Upon a personal search, the police recovered 40 syrups of Codeine Phosphate (Torvirex) from the suspects," he said.
Police identified the arrested drug peddlers as Majid Ahmad Sheikh, Farooq Ahmad Malik, Sajad Ahmad Sheikh, and Faisal Ahmad Wani. All the suspects were immediately taken into custody, and the vehicle was seized.
Police said that the cases under the NDPS Act have been registered at the Baramulla Police Station, and investigations are underway.
The general public of the area has lauded the efforts of the Baramulla Police in their fight against drug trafficking, showing their willingness to support the police in eradicating this menace from society.
On March 13, Baramulla Police arrested Municipal Ward member Barkat Ali Mia and recovered 200 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon and 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate at Railway Crossing Pattan in Baramulla.
