Pvt schools should admit 25% students from weaker sections: SED

SRINAGAR, April 25: The School Education Department on Tuesday said that  all the private unaided schools have the responsibility to  provide  free education to the children from the weaker sections, at least one-fourth (25 percent) of the total strength of class I or pre-school level from their catchment areas.
However, all those private schools which are  functional on state land shall compulsorily admit 25 per cent of students from weaker sections of their catchment area by properly publicizing the admission
As per the official communiqué of the Director of School Education to all the Chief Educational Officers of Kashmir, they have asked to implement free and compulsory education for children from weaker and disadvantaged sections by private unaided schools under Section 12 (1) C of the RTE Act 2009.
" RTE Act Section 12 (1) C envisages that all private unaided schools have the responsibility to dispense and provide free education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections and admit at least one-fourth (25%) of the total strength of class I or pre-school education," DSEK said.
It said that further, all those private schools that are functioning on state land shall compulsorily admit 25% of students from weaker sections of their catchment area by properly publicising the admission.
The Director of School Education, Kashmir, has also requested all the Chief Educational Officers of the Kashmir Division to furnish the list of all private schools functioning on state land immediately.
An official from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) told the Rising Kashmir that under section 12 (1) C of RTE Act 2009,  all the private unaided schools  have to responsibility to  provide free education to children from weaker sections, at least one-fourth (25 percent) of the total strength of class I or pre-school level education in their catchment areas.
