IUST organises seminar on drug addiction, spiritual healing

Awantipora, Dec 26: One-day seminar on Drug addiction, Spiritual healing, and the Role of parents was held at IUST on Wednesday.
The program was organized jointly by International Centre for Spiritual Studies, Dean Outreach, and Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society IUST in collaboration with the Shamah foundation. The program was attended by students, scholars, and faculty members.
Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik (Dean Academics IUST), Prof Shaikh Ajaz Azeez (Former Head, Department of Oncology SKIMS), Prof Abdul Majid (Head, Department of Psychiatry SKIMS), Mufti Ziaul Haq Nazmi (eminent religious scholar), Dr. Nisar Ahmad Trali, and Dr Andleeb (Coordinator MCSS) addressed the participants during the seminar.
The speakers highlighted the menace of drug addiction and the impending human catastrophe if society doesn’t take corrective measures as drug abuse not only has consequences for an individual but the society at large. The experts also informed the gathering about the medical issues related to drug abuse and the strategies being adopted to rescue the victims and their subsequent rehabilitation. Religious scholars present also emphasized the importance of making people aware of the menace and urging them to stay away from this evil.
In this address, Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik said that the absence of awareness poses a threat and the need of the hour is to sensitize all stakeholders to join hands and eradicate this evil. Prof. Hamidullah Marazi spoke about spiritual healing and discussed how it can help in rehabilitation and recovery from drug addiction.
