Kulgam, Dec 30: A 22 year-old youth from Banihal died at District Hospital (DH) Kulgam on Friday while the family alleged medical negligence by the doctors at DH Kulgam.
According to the family, Mohd Imran, from Tanka Tarigam, Banihal was suffering from kidney ailment and was admitted in DH Kulgam for medical treatment.
Manzoor Ahmad, the deceased youth’s brother, told Rising Kashmir that the deceased was admitted at DH Kulgam on Thursday.
“Last night my brother’s condition started to deteriorate and we contacted the doctors and none of them came to see him,” Manzoor Ahmad alleged.
He said that the doctor on duty told us to click the photograph of test reports, instead of physically coming to see our brother.
“When we admitted him in the hospital the doctor present at the time checked him and gave some medicines and an injection. We followed the same prescription. But, during the night no doctor came to see my ailing brother, despite our repeated attempts,” he said.
He further said that the staff nurses on duty were available at the health care facility but the doctors who could have been helpful to us were not willing to come down and see the patients.
The family appealed to the LG government to look into the alleged medical negligence and take action against the doctor who was supposed to remain on duty for patients.
Dr Afshana Bano, Medical Superintendent, DH Kulgam told Rising Kashmir that she will look into the matter and has constituted a committee that will check the claims.
“The patient was admitted in a critical condition on Thursday afternoon. And unfortunately he died on Friday morning. We will check it and if anyone is found to have erred, he/she will be taken to task,” she said
The Medical Superintendent said that a committee has been constituted and has been asked to submit a report within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, M Y Tarigami in a tweet termed the incident as unfortunate and pitched for a credible probe into the matter.
“It is very unfortunate that a youth from Banihal died due to alleged medical negligence at DH Kulgam. Expressing my heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family. Meanwhile, a credible probe must be initiated to ascertain the facts that led to the death of youth,” he tweeted.
