Bandipora Aug 30: Stating that Kashmir is witnessing a golden period of tourism, Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir P K Pole said that 20 lakh tourists have thronged Kashmir valley in eight months so far this year.
Talking with the reporters on the sidelines of the culmination ceremony of Wular festival, Pole said that 20 lakh tourists have visited Kashmir valley so far this year and hotels are booked in advance for about three weeks.
Pole said that Kashmir valley is going to witness a record number of about 45 lakh tourists in 2023 with hotels fully packed which will enhance demand for homestay options.
Pole said that with the expansion of airport here and after the Valley will get connected with the rest of the country through railway, Kashmir will witness huge tourist footfall for which tourism infrastructure here will fall short and then homestay will play an important role in combating that massive demand.
Replying to a query on the future roadmap for restoration of Wular Lake, Pole said that the administration is committed to ensuring that the lake is cleaned on a fast-track basis, besides restoring its lost glory.
“Wular Conservation and Management Authority has already framed a plan for reviving the glory of Wular and to attract more tourists. A walkway of 15 Kms is being constructed on banks of the lakh so that tourists can enjoy its picturesque view,” Pole added.
