Chadoora, March 06: Senior politician Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Sunday presided over a workers’ meeting at Gowharpora, Kuzwera in Chadoora constituency.
The party spokesperson said the gathering was attended by many senior workers and political activists.
During his speech, Zaffer emphasized on the importance of expanding their public outreach program to inform people about their political agenda, which primarily focuses on the holistic development of Chadoora that has witnessed criminal administrative negligence under previous successive governments.
Zaffer stressed on the workers to prepare for the upcoming local body elections, which forms the foundation of democracy and highlighted the desire for a trustworthy political option that can meet people’s expectations and work towards transforming Chadoora into a model constituency.
He also raised concerns about the corrupt practices of some political parties, where Panchs and Sarpanchs are manipulated only to serve for the respective party’s ulterior motives, hindering their autonomous functioning in the interest of the general public.
“Such mal-practices must be put under check as it undermines and exploits the authority of the Panchs and Sarpanchs, preventing them from understanding their actual power and obligations towards the people who have mandated them to work for the betterment of their respective villages and areas,” he said.
He further highlighted that constitutional provisions under the Panchayat Act have delegated at least 30 government departments to help resolve public issues.
“Yet some bigot Panchayat members belonging to traditional parties prioritize their party interests over the smooth functioning of the three-tier system,” he added.
While discussing various issues pertaining to public welfare a matter of great public concern was raised in relation to unfiltered supply of water to Gowharpora Kuzwera from an adjoining Overhead Tank (OHT), which is linked to a non-functional filtration plant.
“Upon inspection of this site I have noted that water supply provided to this area is unfiltered as the construction of this filtration plant remained incomplete during National Conference’s tenure. But it is alarming as the people of this area continue to be under the looming threat of an impending water borne epidemic,” he added.
Zaffer pledged to address the issue by bringing it to the attention of the Chief Engineer of the Jal Shakti department in the coming week.
During the meeting, the workers also shared their suggestions, which Zaffer Mir duly noted and assured to be worked on.
