Workshop on Post-Production Techniques held at JU

Jammu, March 3: The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, inaugurated a three-day skill training workshop on post-production techniques Monday.
The event was graced by Anil Gakkhar, Resident Editor, Dainik Jagran Jammu, as the chief guest, while Prof. Durgesh Tripathi, Dean, School of Media, Indraprastha University, New Delhi, delivered the keynote address.
Scheduled from March 3 to March 5, the workshop aims to provide students with hands-on training in post-production, a critical component of the media industry.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Prof. Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, who emphasized the department’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demands.
“Aligning with the vision of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai, this workshop is designed to equip students with essential professional skills in media production,” she stated.
Chief Guest, Anil Gakkhar provided insights into post-production techniques in print media, explaining the vital role of editing and layout design in shaping news delivery.
In his keynote address, Prof. Durgesh Tripathi highlighted the evolving landscape of media and journalism, stating that proficiency in post-production is no longer optional but a necessity in today’s digital age.
Prof. Alka Sharma, Chairperson, SIIEDC, JU, underscored the significance of skill-based learning in media studies.
Guest of Honour Dr. Ajay Gupta, former Director, ICSSR, spoke on the role of post-production in research and publication, emphasizing its impact on content quality and presentation.
The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Dushyant Kumar Rai, Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies.
Later, during an interaction with the resource persons, Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai stressed upon the significance of experiential learning in the contemporary world scenario and commitment of the University of Jammu to provide education aligned with the vision of NEP.
Over the next three days, students will participate in practical training sessions covering, editing techniques, Content refinement and the impact of post-production on research, publication, and print media.
The first session was led by Yogesh Manhas, a renowned photographer, followed by Dr. Sachin Bharti, Associate Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, both of whom conducted practical demonstrations on production and post-production techniques. The inaugural session was moderated by Kumerjit Chajgotra. The event was attended by faculty members Brajesh Mishra, film maker, Dr. Pardeep Singh Bali and Dr. Ramiyan Bhardwaj, along with students and media professionals.
