Srinagar, Mar 09: Commissioner Secretary, Parks Gardens and Floriculture, Sheikh Fayaz on Thursday said Asia’s largest tulip garden will be thrown open to the public on March 19 with 1.6 million tulips.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Shiekh Fayaz said that the department is shaping the arrangements, which are in the final stage, to ensure the opening of the garden on the due date.
The commissioner said everything is in place, and currently the gardeners are pressed into service to plant tulip saplings inside the garden. He said that tulips are almost imported every year, and this year the garden will have 1.6 million flowers, including Cap Knowya, Hamilton, Sweet Heart, and Christmas.
The travel agencies have hoped that the garden will witness a huge footfall of tourists this year and added, “Besides tulips, the garden will have Muscari daffodils and other types of flowers.” One of the biggest draws for visitors from all over the nation and the world.
“The Valley’s summer tourism season is getting a head start thanks to the Tulip Garden in Srinagar. We frequently receive inquiries from visitors asking when the garden will open, and we anticipate a significant increase in visitors this year,” they added.
An official from the floriculture department stated that this year, four new varieties of tulips have been imported from Holland. In addition, the fountain channel has also been increased this year, which will be eye-catching for visitors.
The officer stated that this year the tourists will enjoy more than one lakh tulips, as 1.6 million tulips will bloom this year for the first time. Last year, only 1.5 tulips bloomed in the garden.
The department will also organize a tulip festival there to promote tourism in Kashmir.. Last year, the garden was thrown open for the general public on March 23, and the garden witnessed the highest number of tourists.
