Jammu, Oct 14: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday pledged to restore the Roshni Scheme if the party wins in the next Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
According to a party statement, Azad met with several delegations led by Sobat Ali, Provincial Incharge of the ST wing, and a delegation headed by District President Udhampur, Ashwani Khajuria. During these meetings, he was briefed on various issues raised by the delegations, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed through appropriate channels.
Addressing the ST community leaders, the DPAP chief criticised the “unlawful” eviction drive to reclaim government land.
The former chief minister encouraged intensified activities and urged party members to connect with people at the grassroots level. He emphasised that anyone, including government officials, who misused the scheme to acquire land illegally would face legal consequences.
DPAP General Secretary RS Chib appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to provide compensation to farmers in various areas of the Jammu region who suffered extensive losses to their paddy crop due to heavy thunderstorms and rains. He highlighted the significant damage to crops caused by high-velocity winds and thunderstorms, emphasising the need for support to farmers whose livelihoods depend on these crops. He also called for the rehabilitation of people who lost their homes due to the windstorm and urged the government to update the outdated infrastructure in affected areas.
Chib assured the delegations from these affected areas that their concerns would be elevated to the appropriate authorities.
