Srinagar, Oct 18: Srinagar-based bodybuilder Waseem Jan from Khanyar won Mr. Kashmir title 2022, while as Mir Yasir from Parimpora bagged Mr. Men’s Physique 2022 title in Kashmir Bodybuilding and Men’s Physique Sports championship held at Tagore Hall Srinagar on Tuesday. Around 45 participants took part in the Srinagar Bodybuilding Championship while 92 participants took part in the Kashmir Bodybuilding championship from across the Kashmir valley.
As per the Secretary-General, Kashmir Bodybuilding Association Feroz Shah, two championships 16th Kashmir Body Building and 5th Men’s Physique sports and 2nd Srinagar Body Building and 2nd Men’s Physique sports were successfully held at Tagore Hall Srinagar last week.
Srinagar-based bodybuilder Wasim was declared “Mr. Kashmir 2022”, “Mr. Srinagar 2022” and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 45000 and Mir Yasir was declared “Men’s Physique Sports championship” in both Kashmir and Srinagar championships and was awarded Rs. 25000 cash prize. Secretary General KBBA Feroz Shah inaugurated the event while Lakshay SP South was the chief guest, he gave away the prizes among the players. 33 years old Waseem Jan hails from the Khanyar area in district Srinagar while 25-year-old Mir Yasir hails from Parimpora Srinagar. Speaking to Rising Kashmir Waseem Jan said that he started bodybuilding in 2012 since then he has been achieving milestones.
“I was physically very weak in my childhood. My father encouraged me for bodybuilding so I joined and keep improving with every passing day,” he said. He says that right from the start of his bodybuilding he saw a drastic improvement in his physique and he appeared in various competitions where he bagged several medals. “I have won the title of Mr. Kashmir in two straight years in 2021, 2022, and the title of Mr. Srinagar in 2021 while won also overall and champion of champions title in 2021,” he said.
He said, “It is a proud moment for me to bag Mr. Kashmir title consecutively for two straight years.” He adds that he now is aiming for the Mr. India title. He says that he has self-sponsored himself as bodybuilding is a very expensive game. Mir Yasir said that it was his debut in the Men’s Physique which turned in his favor as he worked hard for this competition.
“I started my bodybuilding career at the age of 15 after my father wanted me to opt for bodybuilding. He himself is a bodybuilder,” he said. He said that he is very excited about winning the Mr. Men’s Physique title and is eyeing for the Mr. India title now,” he said. Earlier on the competitors topped in their respective age categories for competing eventually in overall titles.
The event was organized by Kashir Bodybuilding Association J&K (KBBA, J&K) and District Bodybuilding Association (DBBASK) in collaboration with the J&K sports council.
