UT Foundation Day celebrations conclude at AS College with felicitation ceremony

Srinagar, Nov 01: The UT Foundation Day celebrations reached a spectacular finale at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, as the Divisional Level Contest winners in painting, debate, and quiz were felicitated on the 31st of October, 2023. The event marked the culmination of a three-tier competition organized by the Department of Higher Education, UT of J&K, and brought together 30 winners from the ten districts of Kashmir division.
The contest themes highlighted the significant transformation the UT of J&K has undergone in terms of infrastructure development and upscaling of developmental projects.
The felicitation ceremony was graced by the Principals of Kashmir division colleges, with Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal of Amar Singh College and Nodal Principal of Kashmir Division colleges, delivering the welcome address. He emphasized the importance of a corruption-free society and the implementation of e-Governance measures for transparency and equity, underlining the pivotal role of education in shaping a brighter future for the region’s youth.
The chief guest, Prof. (Dr) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges UT of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasized the critical role of educational institutions in transforming the region and fostering academic excellence. She highlighted the importance of academic freedom, research, and innovation for the growth of the Union Territory.
Anshu Gupta, Director Planning at the Department of Higher Education, UT of Jammu and Kashmir, added a unique dimension to the event with insights into the planning and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the region, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment and access to quality education.
The event also featured a cultural program performed by the Department of Music students and a film screening on the theme “Badalta Jammu Kashmir” by the Media Department students.
The felicitation ceremony acknowledged the individual and institutional winners of the contests: Miss Zobiya Hasan of GCET Safapora, Ganderbal (1st Prize in Painting), Miss Irfat of GDC Killam (2nd Prize in Painting), Mehran Nisar of GDC Boys Anantnag (3rd Prize in Painting), Owais Asad Mir of GDC Boniyar (1st Prize in Quiz), Dayal Firdaus of GDC Pulwama (2nd Prize in Quiz), Basit Ahmad Bhat of GDC Boys Anantnag (3rd Prize in Quiz), Fahad Fayaz of Amar Singh College (1st Prize in Debate), Syed Hina Zainab of Government SAM Degree College Budgam (2nd Prize in Debate), and Zainab Novshad of GDC Kulgam (3rd Prize in Debate).
