Srinagar, Sept 24: At least eight lakh elementary level students of Jammu and Kashmir government-run-schools are all set to receive free textbooks and uniforms well in advance for the upcoming academic session, officials said on Saturday.
The Project Director of Jammu and Kashmir Samagra Shiksha, Raj Deep said, “We have already released the funds for the textbooks and the uniform charges would be released on Monday.”
“We have released Rs 19 crores for textbooks and on Monday we will release Rs 48 crores as uniform charges,” he said adding “From last year, we are making Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) charges of uniform and the textbooks are being distributed by JKBOSE.”
Deep said, “The funds we released this week for free text books are in advance for the next academic year so that the students who are shifting to March session have everything well in hand. Be it textbooks or uniform charges.”
He added that the Government of India (GoI) has released funds for the academic year 2022-23 so that the students can enjoy the perks before the commencement of new academia.
“In one of the previous years, there was a delay in releasing the funds but Samagra Shiksha is trying to ensure that the funds would be drawn in advance for the students,” Deep said.
In the meantime, Ministry of Education (MoE) has said, “An outlay of Rs 4819.05 lakhs was estimated for providing free uniforms to 8,031,75 children at elementary level with Rs 600 each, thereby covering all eligible children, as per norms of Samagra Shiksha.”

“Moreover, an estimated amount of Rs. 2350.86 Lakh was approved for the non-residential training to 39,181 migrant children.”
