JAMMU, SEPT 08: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha called upon educational institutions to lead the way in climate resilience, sustainable development, and disaster preparedness. He emphasised the crucial role of youth in driving development that is both innovative and environmentally responsible.
“Our youth must drive development that meets societal needs without compromising ecosystems. Through modern innovation, we must optimise resource use and adopt a multi-dimensional approach to secure the future of our planet,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Addressing the Foundation Day ceremony of the University of Jammu, he urged the University to integrate sustainability into its academic framework, start short-term professional courses on climate challenges, and take up research on floods and landslides, which are increasingly impacting Jammu & Kashmir.
Highlighting the importance of real-world engagement, LG Sinha called on the University to mobilize student volunteers to assist the administration in relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by recent natural calamities in the Union Territory.
“Once road connectivity is restored, student groups should be sent to affected areas. A dedicated volunteer force must be trained to support district authorities in disaster relief and community rehabilitation,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor encouraged the University to maintain momentum of academic excellence, and to transform classrooms into spaces of creativity, interdisciplinary learning, and experiential education.
He congratulated the Vice Chancellor, faculty, staff, and students on the Foundation Day and urged the institution to set new and ambitious goals with renewed energy.
“This day is also an opportunity for reflection. I commend our universities for their remarkable performance in the NIRF-2025 Rankings, but we must not rest on our laurels. Instead, we must assess our standing critically and set higher benchmarks for the future.”
He called for a campus culture of innovation where students are inspired to challenge the status quo and develop solutions for unpredictable global challenges.
During the ceremony, LG Sinha felicitated distinguished alumni, as well as retired faculty, non-teaching staff, NSS and NCC volunteers for their service.
