Underscoring the department’s commitment to safeguarding Natural Resources and preventing environmental Crime; District Police Ganderbal arrested 02 Smugglers & Seized illegally Transported Forest Produce in the jurisdiction of PS Gund.

A Police spokesperson said, “On a specific input, Police Party PS Gund headed by SHO Shri Lateef Ahmad under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Shri Mohammad Ashraf-JKPS successfully seized a significant quantity of illegally transported forest produce popularly known as “Kuth” packed in 16 gunny bags being illegal Transported/Smuggled in a vehicle bearing Regd. No. JK18C 6556 driven by Bashir Ahmad Raina S/O Habibullah Rania R/O Ganivan Kangan alongwith Fareed Ahmad Akhoon S/O Ab Ahad Akhoon R/O Rayil Gagangir.”

“Accordingly, Case FIR NO. 48/2024, U/S- 26 Forest Act, 303 BNS stands registered at PS Gund and further investigation taken up. Both the individuals involved in the transport/smuggling were taken into Polie custody and face potential charges under relevant sections of the Forest Act”, he said.

The vehicle used in the commission of the offence has also been seized and confiscation proceeding initiated.

Illegal trafficking of Forest Produce is a grave offense that directly impacts our environment and depletes essential natural resources. J&K Police is resolute in its commitment to curb such illegal activities through regular checks and stringent enforcement. The local community is encouraged to report any suspected illegal activity involving natural resources to aid in our collective mission of preserving the Environment.
