Two cops launch crusade against drug addiction in B’pora

Bandipora, Oct 04: Bandipora has centuries old legacy of Alim (knowledge) and Adab (good habits or literature) however over period of time, the district has been grappling with drug menace.
To rid the society of drug menace, police has been at forefront as they been able to grab big fishes involved in drug trade.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandipora Zahid Malik along with Dysp headquarters Bandipora Shafat Mohammad are being hailed by the public as main heroes for their active participation and committed in eliminating this menace.
People believe these two top cops have caught the big sharks involved in this trade which resulted in Bandipora is proceeding towards drug free district.
A social activist wished not to be named told Rising Kashmir that since past many months, he have heard many big drug peddlers including females are being caught by police.
Citizens are hailing this move as they were always concerned for their wards, he said.
SSP Bandipora said that 58 NDPS cases were registered since 2021 and 82 drug peddlers which includes some big infamous peddlers were arrested.
He said that 14.5 gm brown sugar, 22, 281spasmoproxyvon tablets, 1534 codeine bottles, xxx RUM bottles, around 2 KG charas, 32 KG 610 gm of charas powder, 30 Tramafar injections, 11 KG bung leaves and 4.500 poppy straw were recovered since last year.
Another police official said that in a raid on house in Kaloosa Bandipora, 1300 bottles were recovered which were being supplied to school going children and two persons were found in this and were arrested.
He said that similarly police got an information that one lady is selling charas along with other family members and accordingly house was raided and 04 kg of charas was recovered and those involved were arrested however lady managed to escape and was later held after consistent efforts by police.
He said not only peddlers are being arrested but awareness programs in schools are also being organised and imams and khateebs of masjid are also being asked to mention the effects of drugs in their sermons.
The two top cops are being hailed by public in every nook and corner of district as people believe they are keeping Bandipora’s century’s old legacy of Alim and Adam alive by eradicating this social menace.
