Jammu, Aug 13: In a vibrant display of patriotism and unity, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Wednesday highlighted the importance of the national flag and national unity. The Tiranga is not just a flag; it is a symbol of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, and a constant reminder of our shared identity as Indians. It is heartening to see the diverse participation today, showing that the spirit of patriotism is alive and well in every Indian heart,” he said during a Tiranga rally here. The rally, as per a party statement issued here, was organised by Jammu West MLA Arvind Gupta as part of the ongoing “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations ahead of Independence Day.The rally witnessed an overwhelming response, drawing participation from hundreds of citizens across all sections of society—transcending barriers of religion, gender, age, and economic status, the statement said. People waving the national flag marched in unison, chanting slogans in praise of Bharat Mata and celebrating the spirit of freedom and national pride.Addressing the gathering at the culmination of the rally, LoP Sharma highlighted the importance of involving youth and local communities in such initiatives to instil a deep-rooted sense of nationhood. “Events like these are crucial to keep the younger generation connected to the values enshrined in our Constitution and the legacy of our freedom movement,” he added.MLA Arvind Gupta, who took the initiative to organise the rally, expressed heartfelt thanks to Sunil Sharma for leading the event despite his busy schedule. “I am immensely grateful to our respected Leader of Opposition for joining us to lead and inspire the people of Jammu West Assembly segment with his presence. His leadership today has added great value to our Independence Day celebrations,” said Gupta.Gupta also lauded the residents for turning up in large numbers and making the rally a grand success. The Tiranga Rally concluded peacefully, with participants singing the national anthem and taking a collective pledge to uphold the unity and integrity of the country, the statement said.
