Kargil, Aug 11: On the final day of the three-day hunger strike at Hussaini Park, Kargil, thousands of people joined the historic APEX–KDA joint mega protest rally, marking a powerful display of unity and determination for Ladakh’s 4-point demands.Residents of Leh also expressed their solidarity with the hunger strike, terming it a crucial step towards making Ladakh’s voice heard at the national level. They said statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule are essential to safeguard the region’s unique culture and traditions, warning that without these protections, Ladakh’s identity could be at risk. Locals from Leh further urged wider participation in the movement, though many refrained from speaking on camera during media interactions.Chairman Anjuman-e-Mehdi Kargil, Agha Muhammad Ruhullah Al-Mussavi, along with the executive body, joined the hunger strike and pledged full support to KDA Kargil and Apex Leh.Prominent environmental activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk also participated in the strike and addressed the media yesterday, reiterating the call for constitutional safeguards and statehood for Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule.Sonam Wangchuk reached Kargil on Sunday to join the KDA and Apex mega hunger strike and rally.
