Jammu, Sept 05:  Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spearheaded the commemoration of Teachers’ Day in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. After attending function in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor extended his participation to the celebrations in Jammu, where he honoured outstanding teachers for their commendable contributions to school education.
Paying homage to former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasized the occasion’s significance in acknowledging teachers’ substantial contributions to society and the nation.
He stated, “Teachers create a system that is appropriate to the needs of the time and the requirements of society. They are the creators of the real strength of the nation and pave the way for rapid social and economic progress in the future.”
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor urged the teaching community to cultivate curiosity and inquisitiveness among students, nurturing their unique creativity and talent. He highlighted the role of curiosity in sparking experiments and inventions that have revolutionized the world, emphasizing the importance of creating environments in schools where students are encouraged to ask questions.
“Society can discover new solutions when students develop curiosity, collaborate, become more creative, and learn the values of teamwork. For lifelong learning, both teachers and students should have a thirst for knowledge and intense curiosity that is not confined to the classroom,” stated Lieutenant Governor Sinha.
He called for an end to comparisons, the burden of tests, and rigid curricula on students, emphasizing the need to embrace each child’s uniqueness. He added, “If we want to secure the future of this nation and create new possibilities, then we must provide an opportunity for their uniqueness to blossom.”
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor underscored the importance of developing schools as the foundation for shaping the younger generation’s future. He stressed the need to create an educational ecosystem where schools are integrated into the fabric of cities or villages, connected to local communities, businesses, and institutions. This integration would help students become aware of local issues and opportunities.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha also emphasized the necessity of future-proofing education, empowering schools to anticipate change and instilling lifelong learning skills that combine essential knowledge and applied skills.
As part of the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated 790 civil works projects under Samagra Shiksha and laid the e-foundation for 376 Astrophysics Labs and 10 Virtual Reality Labs across Jammu & Kashmir. He also initiated the process for the engagement of 15,017 Aaya/Helpers for schools with pre-primary sections.
Present at the event were Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor; Padma Shri Prof. JS Rajput; Padma Shri Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri; Padma Dr. SP Varma; Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, School & Higher Education, senior officers, teachers, and students.
