Budgam, Nov 19: To commemorate World Toilet Day, Swachhta Run – a run for Sampoorna Swachata was flagged-off by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, S F Hamid on Saturday from BDO office complex to Panchayat ghar Paller Budgam. The rally was organised by RDD Budgam in collaboration with the Education department.
Addressing the gathering, the DC said that the District Administration is carrying out the drive with a missionary zeal to make the district neat and clean so as to attain ODF plus status. He said the most befitting tribute which can be paid to the “father of the nation” would be to re-invigorate and strengthen our efforts for ensuring cleanliness of all the surroundings of our town and villages.
He said that ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by the Prime Minister has played a vital role in bringing about a behavioural change in the people with regard to maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
The DC discussed modalities for implementation of “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign in the district to mobilize communities to make the district clean, junk free, with 100% toilets to each and every household.
Compost and soakage pits, segregation sheds, separate dustbins, no polythene zone, plantation drive, is the aim of administration so that there is a healthy society. He urged the public to make use of these facilities provided by the government so that there is clean and green Budgam.
The DC highlighted the aim of the campaign and said that such events will also be organized at other places of public importance. He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure strict implementation of ban on Open defecation and proper disposal of both bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste in the district.
During the swachhta awareness rally, the students were carrying banners highlighting the ill impact of unclean and hazardous environments and chanted slogans such as, “A clean environment is a healthy environment “ & “Make your houses clean, stop open defecation, use dustbins”.
Students also pledged to refrain from making the environment unclean. They pledged to convince their family and friends for the same to create environmental responsibility. Roads and schools were also cleaned during the drive. Others who were present during the programme are ACP Budgam Zahida, DIO Budgam Erum, Panchayat secretary Hq Dilshada, various PRIs, school students, besides other district, tehsil and block level officials also attended the program.
