Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government is going to hold special camps at the block level under Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) to reach out to the last person without individual household latrine (IHHL).
The first such special camps will be held on September 26 (Monday) across all the blocks of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The objective of these camps is to cover the uncovered people. What happens at times is that some people visit the offices but they lack proper documents and then they have to return without getting their works done,” said Director Rural Sanitation, J&K, Charandeep Singh.
He added that such people find it difficult to visit again given their other engagements.
“So to facilitate that process such camps have been started. Also we need to weed out those beneficiaries who have already taken benefits from sanitation campaigns as they are not eligible again,” Singh told Rising Kashmir.
The Director has instructed all the officers to complete the whole process within 10 days and facilitate those people who have deficiencies in documentation.
Similarly, an official communication has been issued by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation wherein it has been made clear to dispose of all the pending cases.
It has been flagged in the official communique that a lot of PMAY beneficiaries and previous IHHL beneficiaries have not submitted their documents for the release of payments.
“The eligible beneficiaries can reach out to their Block Development Officers or VLWs along with the documents that Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) has been constructed by him or her for release of the payment,” reads the order.
The incentives, according to the order, should be provided by the concerned Block Development Officers under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Panchayats.
Under SBM (Rural), the government provides Rs 12000 to construct Individual Household Latrine to the beneficiaries who fall Below Poverty Line (BPL) or belong to identified Above Poverty Line (APL) restricted to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe or a small/ marginal farmer, landless labourers with homestead, physically handicapped and women headed households.
