Jammu, Dec 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) executive member Raman Suri on Thursday called for an effective system to address public grievances in Jammu and Kashmir.
Acknowledging the growing pile of unresolved complaints in the region, he expressed concerns over the lack of accountability within the grievance redressal mechanism, which has been hampering effective resolution.
“While complaints are registered, their redressal remains a significant challenge. The government’s decision to establish the Chief Minister’s Public Services and Outreach Office’ is a good step toward creating a better administrative system. However, it must be ensured that the grievances of the people seeking justice are resolved effectively,” Suri said in a statement issued here.
The BJP leader called for identifying and taking strict action against officers and employees who ignore public concerns. He said the lack of transparency has created opportunities for corruption, and some employees are failing to uphold their responsibilities.
“Public access assessment and feedback are essential for administrative reforms. However, even after receiving feedback, the administration has struggled to implement meaningful changes,” Suri said, adding that complete transparency and accountability must be ensured in addressing public grievances.
Despite engaging the Information and Technology Department to enhance the Samadhan portal for grievance resolution a robust mechanism must be put in place to incorporate public suggestions through both online and offline channels, ensuring the system evolves to meet people’s expectations.
“This initiative to help people seek redressal of their issues will only be effective if the government removes existing administrative shortcomings. Transparency, accountability, and responsiveness are key to ensuring justice for the people,” Suri said, adding that the government is required to ensure that this initiative sets a precedent for efficient and transparent grievance redressal, restoring public faith in the administration.
