Budgam, March 05: For the first time, a special Sunday market was started by the street vendors at Magam main town in this central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
In this Sunday market, the street vendors offered a 50 percent discount for the products and items.
Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, vice president of the Street Vendors Association of Magam, told Rising Kashmir that 50 percent discounts are given to the people who buy products from this market.
“Among 115 street vendors in Magam town, 110 have been registered at Municipal Committee Magam. A few days ago, the Municipal Committee Magam provided the space for street vendors where they are installing their stalls on a daily basis,” Bhat said.
Bhat expressed gratitude to the municipal committee for providing them with proper space in the main town.
“Earlier, we were facing a lot of difficulties in the area. We were criticised for creating traffic jams as our stalls were installed on the roadside,” he said.
Suhail Abbas Mir, one of the street vendors from the Magam, said that during normal days, a 20 percent discount is given to the customers. “However, on Sunday, there is a 50 percent discount,” he said.
Mir said the street vendors and shopkeepers from any part of the Budgam district can install their stalls every Sunday, through which they can sell their products in this Sunday market.
Suhail further said, “We are earning a small amount of money from our products. We want to work for the welfare of the people where they can purchase items at normal rates.”
