Srinagar, Aug 13: National Conference (NC) General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Wednesday stressed the importance of allowing the Omar Abdullah-led government in Jammu & Kashmir to work freely and without hindrance.He said the restoration of J&K’s statehood remains a non-negotiable first step toward the “restoration” of the region’s political, constitutional, and democratic rights. “Statehood is central to empowering the people and reinstating their confidence in institutions. It is the foundation upon which the future of our youth and our democracy depends,” Sagar said while addressing the party functionaries here.In a statement issued here, the MLA Khanyar reiterated the party’s commitment to the mandate given by the people. He said the National Conference government has been elected for a full five-year term and that it is fully committed to delivering on its promises during this tenure. “We have a clear roadmap. The Omar Abdullah government is focused on development, employment generation, and strengthening grassroots democracy. We will ensure every promise made is fulfilled,” Sagar assured.The NC leader lauded the ongoing efforts of the Omar Abdullah-led administration to bring the government closer to the people. “This government has successfully bridged the longstanding gap between the administration and the public, citing initiatives such as opening the civil secretariat to common citizens, which has enabled better public access and responsiveness. This move reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and participatory governance,” he added.The meeting also focused on strengthening the party’s grassroots connect, the statement said. Sagar urged the functionaries to remain proactive in engaging with the public, listening to their concerns, and ensuring that people feel represented and heard. He emphasised the importance of organisational discipline, unity, and commitment to the party’s core principles.
